Game for Let's Go on a Feeling Safari! kids age 4-7yr.
Let's Go on a Feeling Safari!
This is a fun and active game designed to help children ages 4-7 explore and recognize their emotions! It combines movement, storytelling, and a bit of creativity, keeping them engaged and learning.
What You'll Need:
- Open space (indoors or outdoors)
- Optional: Stuffed animals, scarves, or other props
How to Play:
-
Set the Scene: Announce that you're all going on a Feeling Safari! Explain that you'll be exploring different emotions and acting them out like on a real safari, but instead of animals, you'll be looking for feelings.
-
The Emotion Guide: You're the safari guide! Choose an emotion to start with, such as happy, sad, angry, or scared. Briefly explain what the emotion feels like and how someone might express it with their body and face.
-
Let's Move!: Here's where the fun begins! Depending on the chosen emotion, encourage the children to move around the space in a way that reflects that feeling.
- Happy: Skip, hop, jump for joy, wiggle your body like a dancing noodle!
- Sad: Slouch your shoulders, walk slowly with a droopy head, pretend to wipe away tears.
- Angry: Stomp your feet, clench your fists, puff out your cheeks and frown (but remember, we don't hurt anyone during a safari!).
- Scared: Shiver your shoulders, tiptoe cautiously, look around with wide eyes and hold onto a grown-up for comfort.
-
Storytelling Safari: After everyone has moved around expressing the chosen emotion, add a storytelling element. You can say, "We found a grumpy bear feeling angry because someone took his honey!" Encourage the children to use their imaginations and act out a short story related to the emotion. They can use props like stuffed animals or scarves to add to the fun.
-
New Emotion, New Adventure!: Choose a new emotion and repeat steps 3 and 4. You can explore a variety of emotions throughout the game.
Bonus Round:
- Mirror, Mirror: One person acts out an emotion without saying anything. The others try to guess the emotion by copying the movements and expressions.
- Feeling Freeze: Call out "Feeling Freeze!" Everyone strikes a pose showing a particular emotion, and whoever guesses the emotion first gets to choose the next one.
Tips:
- Keep the game short and sweet, especially for younger children.
- Be energetic and enthusiastic! Your excitement will make the game even more enjoyable.
- Encourage creativity and silly movements. Laughter is a great way to learn!
- Talk about the emotions you're exploring throughout the game. This helps children understand the different feelings they experience.
